Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas from soil and rock. It can enter through foundation openings and accumulate indoors. Because it has no colour, smell or taste, testing is the only way to estimate the level in a home.

Understanding a valid long-term result
The Canadian guideline is 200 Bq/m³. Test length and placement matter, so confirm the measurement before deciding what the number means.

What mitigation does
The most common approach is active sub-slab depressurization. A pipe and small fan draw soil gas from beneath the foundation and discharge it outdoors. The home’s foundation determines the final design.
